Quality Control/Safety: General Standards/Processes

Ductwork in Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Process Air systems is designed around the velocity and static pressure experienced within the system. The construction of the ductwork in these systems is described within the standards published by the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning National Association (SMACNA). The Ernest D. Menold, Inc. Shop Standards for fabrication and installation meet these standards published by SMACNA.

Our Shop Standards are used to select metal thickness, duct reinforcement, and the type of construction. Some types of construction require welding of joints and seams. The many welding processes we perform are described in standards published by the American Welding Society (AWS). When required, we can provide certified welding procedures and certified welding technicians.

When we work with HVAC systems, we also reference the standards published by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA). For designing industrial dust control and ventilation systems, we use the recommended practices for Industrial Ventilation published by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH)

We refer to OSHA General Industry Standards (29 CFR-1910) for the design and fabrication of stairways, platforms, handrails, and machine guards.
