Incyte Green Roof Project with Solanum Steel

July 20, 2017

Incyte Corporation opened its new 190,000 square foot North American headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. Part of the new headquarters included a 154,000 square foot green roof built over the parking garage. This roof features a pickleball court, putting green, walking trail, and community gardens.

Ernest D. Menold, Inc. was contracted by Greenrise Technologies, a full-service green infrastructure firm. The project called for using Solanum Steel, a pre-oxidized weathering steel (Corten) surface developed by Zahner in Kansas City, MO. The surface is produced by accelerating the natural weathering process and stabilizing the result. Solanum Steel provides the weathering look of steel with warm hues, but will not stain adjacent surfaces as regular steel would.

We were contracted to perform the following work on the green roof:

  • Fabricate and install :

    • 16’ high sloped metal wall, along with the 3” x 3” x ¼” HSS architectural structure to support it

    • ¼” Solanum steel retaining wall

    • Corten edging for green roof

    • 37’ of solunum steel cabinets

    • Lobby trim walls

Our scope of the project accounted for over 7,000 man hours in shop fabrication and field installation.
